Central Government Employees DA Hike 2026 Increased to 60% Latest Update
Central government increases Dearness Allowance to 60% effective January 2026 benefiting employees and pensioners nationwide.
The Central Government has approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners. With this revision, the DA rate has increased from 58% to 60% of Basic Pay, effective from January 1, 2026. This decision brings financial relief to millions of government workers facing rising inflation across the country 📊
The revised DA will benefit approximately 50 lakh central government employees and nearly 68 lakh pensioners. The increase forms part of the government’s biannual DA revision system, which is implemented twice every year — in January and July.
Dearness Allowance is calculated based on the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI). The purpose of DA is to compensate employees and pensioners for the impact of inflation on their living expenses. As inflation rises, DA is adjusted accordingly to maintain purchasing power.
For example, if a central government employee has a basic salary of ₹50,000, the earlier DA at 58% amounted to ₹29,000 per month. After the revision to 60%, the DA increases to ₹30,000 per month, resulting in an additional ₹1,000 monthly benefit. Over a year, this creates a noticeable increase in total income 💰
Importantly, the revised DA is applicable from January 1, 2026, which means employees and pensioners are also eligible to receive arrears for the pending months before the official implementation in salary disbursement.
This increase applies under the framework of the 7th Pay Commission, which continues to guide salary structure adjustments for central government staff. DA revisions remain one of the most significant periodic financial updates for government employees across India.
Experts expect that the next DA revision announcement may take place around July 2026, depending on updated inflation index data. If inflation trends continue upward, another increase may be considered later this year 📈
Overall, the latest DA hike strengthens income support for government employees and pensioners and reflects the government’s ongoing effort to balance salary structures with inflation trends in the economy.
